Welcome
Welcome to the Yorkshire Regiment Remembrance Website, a collaborative memorial dedicated to preserving the memory of the officers and men of The Yorkshire Regiment (Alexandra, Princess of Wales's Own) who served during the First World War, 1914–1919.
First established in 2006, this website has grown through the generous support of researchers, descendants, photographers and friends of the Regiment. Their contributions have helped create an extensive archive of photographs, memorials, war graves and historical information, ensuring that the sacrifice of those who served will continue to be remembered by future generations.
More than 65,000 men served with The Yorkshire Regiment during the First World War. Of these, over 9,300 lost their lives. This website commemorates those men by recording their names, preserving their stories and illustrating where they are remembered today.
Whether you are researching a family member, visiting a memorial, exploring a battlefield or simply wishing to learn more about the Regiment, we hope you will find this website both informative and inspiring.
The Fricourt Memorial commemorates the officers and men of the 7th Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment (Alexandra, Princess of Wales's Own), who lost their lives on the opening day of the Battle of the Somme. The memorial is located in Fricourt British Cemetery, where many of the men commemorated on the memorial are also buried.

These memorials provide a lasting reminder of the courage, sacrifice and service of the officers and men of The Yorkshire Regiment during the First World War.
Many of the photographs featured throughout this website have been generously contributed by researchers, descendants and visitors who have travelled to these places of remembrance over many years.
The Fricourt Memorial, shown here, has become one of the defining images of the website and serves as a fitting tribute to those whose names it bears.
About the Website
The Yorkshire Regiment Remembrance Website is a collaborative project dedicated to preserving the memory of the officers and men of The Yorkshire Regiment (Alexandra, Princess of Wales's Own) who served during the First World War (1914–1919), particularly those who gave their lives.
Since the website was first established in 2006, thousands of photographs, documents and historical records have been contributed by researchers, descendants, local historians and friends of the Regiment. Their generosity has created a unique archive of memorials, war graves, battlefield locations and individual stories that might otherwise have been lost.
The website contains extensive information including memorial inscriptions, photographs of graves, biographical notes, Rolls of Honour, battlefield memorials and many thousands of names, providing a valuable resource for family historians, researchers and anyone wishing to learn more about the Regiment's service during the First World War.
Although no website can ever tell every story, it is hoped that this continuing record will help ensure that the sacrifice and service of these men will never be forgotten.
"At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them."
